Los hermafroditas

In 1978, Michel Foucault announced a volume of his *History of Sexuality* dedicated to hermaphrodites. However, when he redirected his research toward Antiquity, he abandoned it. A manuscript, a first draft of this announced book, remained in his archives, a text that time has imbued with renewed relevance. In it, the philosopher, drawing on the diary of the 19th-century hermaphrodite Herculine Barbin, elaborates the crucial distinction, both historical and theoretical, between anatomical sex and sexuality.
