Towards the end of the Taishō era (1912-1926), Fuji moves into the Kaika residence, a luxurious and elegant apartment complex. The translator soon begins to interact with the various residents: a detective investigating curious cases with a teenage assistant, a telephone operator whose voice obsesses men, a married couple who warmly welcome a pair of friends, a young woman with sorrow etched on her face, a postman delivering mail to an abandoned house...
