The collection of stories in this volume can be interpreted in various ways as fictionalizing Cuban history and exploring its vast potential. Tobacco emerges as a protagonist in these tales. Its presence is felt in the texts in diverse ways: in the fields, as hand-rolled cigars or cigarettes; in the leaves themselves or in the bales that transport them to the factory; in the hands of the cigar roller, the businessman and the tobacconist, the die-hard smoker, or the "delicate" vendor... Nor is the recurrence of the erotic in some passages of the stories accidental, a peculiarity that forms part of the "personality" of the aromatic leaf, of its centuries-long history, nurtured by the ingenuity of renowned tobacco growers.
