The exoticism and mystery of Japan have long since entered Spanish poetry through the haiku. The mastery of authors like Sokan (1465-1553), Moritake (1473-1549), and Basho (1644-1694) captivated Valle-Inclán, Díez-Canedo, Antonio Machado, and José Juan Tablada. Alicia Mariño revisits this territory of Japanese verse for the second time, in a collection where contemplative and introspective poems coexist harmoniously with melancholic and joyful ones, poems of love and disillusionment, of life and death.
