Camina o muere

When Karen steps onto the noisy streets of Bogotá after serving a five-year prison sentence, she feels completely disoriented. The wounds inflicted by that unjust and promiscuous miniature society that is the prison system are still fresh. Although Karen is not yet thirty, her life has always been marked by violence. Only the help of a poet who teaches writing classes to the inmates offers her a way out: to bear witness, in her own words, to everything that has happened to her. Karen will thus recount, in torrents, the reason that led her to flee her family and be recruited by the paramilitaries, among whom brutality and blind obedience reign. And why she thought she had found refuge in the FARC, where she was painfully transferred from one camp to another under the orders of her guerrilla commander, until she was arrested while trying to escape. For Karen, it has always been a matter of moving forward or dying. And Karen, then and now, walks tirelessly, guided by her desire to live.
