El portero

After a few failed jobs, Juan lands a position as a doorman in a Manhattan skyscraper. There, he dedicates himself to opening the building's door to the tenants and, as he himself believes, the door to "true happiness." An eccentric gallery of characters crosses his path, among them Roy Friedman, sixty-five years old, obsessed with giving away candy left and right; Brenda Hill, "a somewhat risqué, single, and slightly alcoholic woman"; Arthur Makadam, an aging and impotent womanizer; Cassandra Levinson, "a tireless Fidel Castro propagandist" who simultaneously enjoys the comforts of capitalism; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Times, "both homosexual and so similar physically and morally that they practically form a single entity"; Walter Skirius, a scientist obsessed with artificial implants… Although the truth is that Juan gets along better with the pets than with the building's inhabitants, and with them, he will embark on a journey of no return.
