Demasiado lejos

Buenos Aires, April 2, 1982. Argentinians awoke to a monumental piece of news: "We've recovered the Falklands!" And so began three unforgettable months, three months in which those islands from school maps became the focus of social upheaval, three months in which the protagonists of this story would swing from euphoria to desolation. And so began the nightmare for the families of Carlitos, Antonio, and Conejo, recently discharged conscripted soldiers from the class of 1962, who were reinstated and sent to fight. Thousands of kilometers from the conflict zone, amidst misinformation and misleading advertising, the war against the British was an abstraction, a blurry and elusive narrative that each person populated with their own fantasies and preconceptions. United or opposed, lucid or bewildered, the characters in this great fresco by Eduardo Sacheri will traverse, along with the readers, this dizzying, contradictory and meaning-filled period of recent Argentine history.
