Life is hard for the inhabitants of Rainshadow City, a place where poverty and corruption are rampant, and where they live in terror of a criminal organization known as the Lucky Crows. Toshiko, Jun, and Mei Kawakami are a family whose bonds are based on loyalty, not blood. They live outside the law and have only one goal: to avenge the murder of their beloved "aunt" Reiko at the hands of the Lucky Crows. Haru, the empress's son and heir to the archipelago, is destined to perpetuate his mother's ignoble legacy, but what he truly desires is to befriend magical sun spirits that only he seems able to see. Theo, forced to flee his homeland, has been compelled to work for the Lucky Crows. He doesn't want to be a gangster, but as an illegal immigrant in the city, his options are limited. However, everything changes when Toshiko steals a dragon pearl from the leader of the crows, causing everyone to embark on an exciting adventure that will determine the future of Rainshadow City.
