Tres cuentos

For the first time, these three stories by Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee are published together in a special edition. In "A House in Spain" (2000), a solitary man buys a centuries-old manor house in the peaceful Catalan village of Bellpuig, and a kind of marriage quickly develops between "a man who is growing old and a house that is no longer young." In "Nietverloren" (2002), we visit an old farm near Cape Cod, "a lost Eden" of South Africa and a reflection of how tourism has taken over its landscapes. The owners' son recalls the history of the place, a magical spot from his childhood that modern times have transformed into yet another theme park for foreigners. "He and His Man," the third story, was the speech Coetzee delivered during the Nobel Prize for Literature ceremony in 2003. The author imagines the life of Robinson Crusoe upon his return to England and how he follows the travels his companion Friday has undertaken around the country through his letters.
