Charlotte Sauvin, an art student raised by her beloved architect father in apartment 4L, knows every corner of the building and all its inhabitants: the voices echoing on the marble staircase, the sound of young Dirk's saxophone on the first floor, the arguments between the concierge and his wife downstairs, or the footsteps of her friend Julian Raphaël, the art dealer's son, across the hall. But one day, the Raphaël family disappears, leaving behind all their belongings except for their priceless art collection, which seems to have vanished without a trace. When rumors of an impending German occupation become reality and a Nazi official, curiously interested in the Raphaëls, takes up residence in the building, trust becomes a matter of life and death. Faced with a new and dangerous reality, the residents of Brugmann Square discover they are not the people they thought they were. Forced to choose between submitting to the regime or risking everything to save each other, each one must confront their own truth and what truly gives meaning to their life.
