El camino de los gitanos

Through an intimate and poetic voice, Montero Glez traces a physical and emotional journey through his own biography against the backdrop of Madrid as both a symbolic and real space, in a kind of personal cartography that combines literature, music, philosophy, and anthropology. Federico García Lorca is his spiritual and mythical guide, especially through his connection to the Retiro Park, the statue of the Fallen Angel, and the poems of "Poet in New York". From there, Montero Glez weaves a network of resonances between the city, death, exile, and flamenco art, with references to Warhol, Sabicas, Morente, Camarón, Thomas de Quincey, Baudelaire, and Pío Baroja, among others. The author transforms his walks through Madrid into a lyrical and detective-like investigation into the roots of flamenco, the spirit of flamenco, Gypsy culture, and the historical ghosts that haunt the streets, beneath which lie ancient cemeteries and the city's secrets.
