When Jock of the Bushveld was published in London in 1907 with Rudyard Kipling's support, it immediately became a bestseller and a classic of children's literature. Since then, it has reached over a hundred editions, been translated into Afrikaans, Dutch, French, Xhosa, and Zulu, and adapted into two films. It tells the story of a puppy rescued by an adventurer in gold-seeking South Africa, recounting his adventures, dangers, and emotions.
