In A Perfect Sick Room, a young woman receives the news that her only brother, just twenty-one years old, is suffering from a serious illness and must spend the last months of his life in a hospital. Day after day, she accompanies him through this ordeal, and their relationship deepens until it becomes the center of her existence. Both in the silence of the white room and in the hospital corridors and cafeteria, where she sometimes chats with an empathetic doctor, time seems to stand still, and yet it moves forward with the rhythm of the seasons. This delicate volume is completed by another story, A Butterfly in the Hollow of the Hands, starring Nanako, a young woman who has just placed her grandmother in a nursing home. And while the elderly woman seems to gradually drift away from reality, her granddaughter begins to feel an immense loneliness, a vivid sense of being "trapped alive." This leads her to question everything, even the toxic relationship she has with her boyfriend, and to wonder if there is a reality apart from the one "growing inside her."
