El abogado del Lincoln se enfrenta a un coloso de la inteligencia artificial acusado de provocar el asesinato de una joven.
After a long journey of self-discovery and a search for a new direction, Mickey Haller now focuses on public interest litigation. He represents the victim's family in a civil suit against Tidalwaiv, an artificial intelligence company whose chatbot encouraged a sixteen-year-old boy to kill his ex-girlfriend.
Haller aims to expose the lack of oversight in the burgeoning and largely unregulated artificial intelligence sector. Joining him is journalist Jack McEvoy, who wants to write a book about the trial. McEvoy discovers that someone possesses crucial information but is too afraid to speak. With billions at stake, the case is fraught with peril, and Tidalwaiv will stop at nothing to prevent Haller from succeeding.
It is often said that machines became smarter than humans when, in 1997, IBM's Deep Blue computer defeated world chess champion Garry Kasparov with the "knight sacrifice." Driven by his sense of duty, Haller will have to employ a similar strategy in court to defeat the most powerful opponent he has ever faced.
