This is the story of a woman who remembers her past to have a present. Of a girl who changes her name to shift the world a tiny bit in her favor and stay alive. Of a nineties village full of goats and screaming silences, a pelota court where you can get handsy, an open-air cinema with chairs from home, a sardine sandwich, a grandmother alone against the world, a cousin with a Walkman, J'Haybers, and the smell of after-sun lotion. And, above all, it's the story of someone who only has a bicycle to escape such a cesspool. A voice of reconciliation, of memory, of reinvention, and of that almost stubborn determination to stay on this tremendous planet that's falling apart but, strange as it may seem, is still our home.
