Divided into three parts, the first two are presented in epistolary form. Lluís de Brocà writes from the trenches of Aragon to his brother, while his companion Trini, desperate at the coldness of the letters she receives, confides in Juli Soleràs, the enigmatic and provocative Dostoevskian antihero who fascinates everyone. In the third part, the seminarian Cruells recalls, from the immediate aftermath of the war, the lost years and the figure of Soleràs, the true protagonist of the work: a contradictory, cynical, and excessive being. Sales manages to make the voices of his characters, caught between idealism and disillusionment, between faith and its loss, envelop us with their intelligence, humor, and despair. Uncertain Glory explores a turbulent time, marked by the struggle between fascism and freedom, ideology and reality. But, more than a historical document, this novel is a moral and human quest in the face of absurdity, a meditation on truth and the fragility of hope.
