After his father's death, Thomas Walsh had to grow up overnight and take all sorts of temporary jobs to pay his mother's medical bills. When he's offered a well-paying position as an interpreter for a young woman who communicates exclusively through sign language, Thomas, the hearing son of a deaf mother, doesn't hesitate to jump at the chance. But he soon discovers that the job has its complications. Vivienne Farrow hasn't uttered a single word since she disappeared in Red Rock Canyon when she was four years old. No one knows what happened to her there, in the darkness. They only know that now her voice is as lethal as poison: whoever hears her speak suffers a horrible death. Since that fateful family vacation, Vivienne has been desperately searching for a way to regain control of her voice and her body. Because the face she sees when she looks in the mirror isn't hers. It's something with sharp teeth. Fortunately, Vivienne has a plan. She's finally found someone who claims to be able to perform a surgical exorcism on her. There's just one problem: first, she has to find a way to get rid of Thomas. But Thomas can't afford to quit his job, nor does he seem willing to abandon the mysterious girl he's falling for, no matter what dark forces threaten to devour them both.
