Ian Kershaw, one of today's most prestigious historians, revives the history of Europe from the First World War to the present day, beginning with the account of the decades of violence in which the continent suffered the effects of the two world wars, the economic crisis of the 1930s, and the upheavals that led, on the one hand, to the Bolshevik Revolution and, on the other, to the rise of fascism and Nazism.
