El cónsul

A Nazi criminal is executed in the basement of an apartment building by a mysterious Israeli group. To arrive at this event, The Consul follows the lives of Hans Richter and Sarah Bauman, two young people living in the German city of Heilbronn, oblivious to the events of the First World War, until Hans is called up for military service along with his friends. They will be the last young men sent by order of the Kaiser to defend his positions in France. Nineteen-year-old Hans promises Sarah that he will return to her. At the front, Hans meets the ruthless soldier Ulrich Krüger and Major Nicholas von Iseldorf, who will be pivotal figures in his life. When the war ends, he discovers that Heilbronn is no longer the same, nor is he, and that Sarah no longer lives there. Hans then begins a search for the meaning of his existence alongside Ulrich, under the command of Von Iseldorf, a quest that will lead him to sell his soul for the defense of Germany. Meanwhile, Sarah leads her family fleeing the insatiable grip of antisemitism. Years after the end of World War II, in Francoist Spain, fate will grant Hans the opportunity to redeem his soul.
