Bestiario románico en España
$ 27.95
This is an essential book for all enthusiasts of Romanesque art, bringing together an extensive list of animals —birds, reptiles, fish, quadrupeds, and fantastical creatures— that can be seen in Spanish churches. We have not attempted to create an exhaustive inventory, an impossible task, but almost all those we might consider important are included, especially from an aesthetic standpoint. The book explores the origins, sometimes prehistoric, of these icons, their symbolic meaning, their evolution across cultures and civilizations, and their influence on medieval bestiaries. This unique visual code, with its symbolic and cultural weight, was transferred to the capitals, corbels, tympana, and paintings of our churches. Another objective of this work is to foster greater interest in Romanesque art, helping us to better preserve this magnificent heritage that we must bequeath to future generations.
