Decrecimiento digital : Un ensayo para repensar de raíz nuestros futuros digitales

Are we heading in the right direction? Undoubtedly, digitalization has many advantages, and under this premise, and at an unprecedented pace, digital tools are being developed and implemented at all levels of society. But do we know if we are advancing with ethical awareness? Do we have the appropriate mechanisms to establish controls? Is it possible to say that these technologies always contribute to creating fairer societies? Do we know what long-term effects they have on our bodies and our ways of socializing? And on the planet and the extraction of natural resources? In this essay, Neil Selwyn calls for a halt to the runaway spiral of urgency that has gripped the 21st century, so that we can rethink whether the future we are building is truly just and desirable. He does so from the critical perspective of degrowth, in which many of the best ideas from leading movements such as environmentalism, feminism, and decoloniality have converged in recent years. The idea, as the author forcefully states, is in no way to reject digital technology, nor to deny any kind of progress, but to ensure that it always serves the common good and, above all, that it contributes to sustainable and equitable progress.
