Vida del noticioso Jorge Sargo

The less-than-edifying life of the rogue Jorge Sargo is the first surviving work by the Enlightenment figure José de Viera y Clavijo. Written when he was barely fourteen, it is surprising to find in it the virtues that would characterize his future work: mastery of writing, an innate curiosity about the world around him, a taste for detail, and great inventiveness. This is a much-needed rediscovery of the first novel in Canarian literature written and set in the islands.
