These are the memoirs of someone who witnessed nearly a century of history, though always in the shadows. For most of her life, Carmen Franco had to do what was right, what her position dictated. First as Franco's daughter; later as the wife of Cristóbal Martínez-Bordiú. She lived through the political transition without the privileges of the past and suffered the failed assassination attempt against her family at the Corona de Aragón Hotel, as they attended her son José Cristóbal's swearing-in ceremony. She witnessed the marriages and divorces of her children, with the exception of Mariola, who married the grandson of the Republican general Tomás Ardid Rey. She faced the death of her grandson Fran in a car accident and the tragic end of her son-in-law, Alfonso de Borbón, as well as all the unexpected twists and turns that fate had in store for her.
