Romany has just turned eighteen and is on the cusp of adulthood when, suddenly, her mother, Angie, the only parent she's ever known, passes away from a sudden illness. In her farewell letter, Angie entrusted her closest friends with looking after her daughter during her senior year of high school. Each of Romany's four mentors possesses a unique perspective on life that Angie wants to pass on to the young woman: Tiger is a perpetual globetrotter, Leon is introverted, practical, and has a unique talent for music, and Maggie, bright and self-assured, loves her job. They've all known each other since college. Hope, on the other hand, whom they've never heard of, is a mystery to them all… Throughout this journey, Romany will have to cope with the pain of loss and the return of ghosts from her past that will turn her life, and the lives of her mentors, upside down. And while everyone faces their fears, sometimes overcoming them, sometimes accepting them, Angie teaches them that you need a community, a family, to be happy.
