In Mathare, one of Nairobi’s toughest neighborhoods, Kibwe Mwelu has never seen anything beyond its muddy, corrugated-iron streets. Life in the slum is unforgiving, and dreaming of something different feels like a luxury—until, one day, a camera falls into his hands. Photojournalist Kyra Aislinn teaches him that light can reveal the invisible, just like silver crystals on a negative. Together with his friends Fatu and Rafiki, Kibwe begins to see his world in a new light, capturing the beauty hidden in the everyday. Through their images, they embark on a journey they never could have imagined.
