Alice Scott is an eternal optimist dreaming of her big break as a writer. Hayden Anderson, a Pulitzer Prize winner, is a temperamental man. Both find themselves on the peaceful island of Little Crescent for the same reason: to write the biography of a woman no one has seen in years—or, at the very least, to meet the octogenarian claiming to be Margaret Ives, a tragic heiress, former tabloid darling, and scion of one of the 20th century’s most storied (and scandal-ridden) families. Margaret puts them to the test for a month. Afterward, she will decide which of them gets to write her story—a prospect that motivates Alice for three reasons: One: Alice is charming. How could she fail to win Margaret’s trust over the course of a whole month? Two: She is more than ready for the job. Plus, it’s the perfect opportunity to finally earn her family’s respect as a writer. Three: The disdain in her rival’s eyes confirms that she is a tougher competitor than he anticipated. However, there is a problem: Margaret is determined to tell each of them different parts of her story—scattered pieces they cannot exchange or piece together due to a strict confidentiality agreement. It also doesn’t help that sparks fly whenever they share the same space. And it becomes increasingly clear that their story—much like Margaret’s—could be a mystery, a tragedy, a love ballad, or a wonderful life... depending on who tells it.
