The days of a certain cartoonist named Alison Bechdel unfold—not exactly placidly—on the rural Vermont property where she lives with her partner, Holly, running a pygmy goat farm. Frustrated by a seemingly dystopian world—teetering on the brink of war and facing climate change that threatens to doom us all—Alison wants to create a raw, honest book that arms humanity to wipe out greed and privilege once and for all. She aims to dismantle Capital and embrace a new era of ethical living. However, her need for income, her own contradictions, and those of the close-knit community surrounding her—we will recognize, decades later, several characters from Dykes to Watch Out For—will pose more than a few challenges to her mission. Not to mention the overshadowing success of Holly’s viral videos about country life, the arrival of a hot veterinarian at the farm, Alison’s uneasy relationship with her sister—a fierce opponent of anything "woke"—or the headaches caused by the TV adaptation of her most successful book, which shows a glaring lack of respect for the original work. Will she manage to save the world? Will she perhaps manage to save her community? Will she at least save her relationship?
