Jersey, 1943. When the German army invades the island, librarian Grace La Motée is determined not to yield. She refuses to destroy books that threaten the Nazi regime and fights back by forming a book club to help islanders escape the terror of war. Bea works at the post office—from where she sends the final telegram announcing the occupation—and feels that standing idly by is not an option. As tensions turn violent, both women are forced to confront the terrible cost of resistance.
