Eileen Merriweather loves stories with happy endings—romance novels, of course. After all, the heroes in those books don’t leave you standing at the altar just a week before the wedding. In those stories, she feels safe. She feels at home. That might be why she’s determined not to miss her book club’s annual getaway this year: she needs good company, cheap wine, and grand romantic gestures—no matter what it takes. But halfway there, her car breaks down, and she finds herself stranded in a charming little town that looks like it stepped straight out of the pages of a novel... Because, in fact, it has. It’s impossible for the place to be real, yet there it is: Eloraton—the setting of her favorite romance series—where the honey candies are always delicious, the diner burgers come slightly burnt, and it always rains in the afternoon. She feels right at home there. It’s the perfect place... but it’s frozen in time, specifically within the late author’s final, unfinished story. Eileen is convinced her mission is to help the town get the happy ending it deserves. But there’s one character in Eloraton she doesn’t recognize at all: a surly bookseller with mint-green eyes, incredibly tempting lips, and impeccable literary taste. And all he wants is for her to leave as soon as possible. That poses a real problem, because Eileen is starting to suspect that her own destiny might lie within that unfinished story.
