Banak, the son of a Colombian father and a Guinean mother, reflects in his songs the harsh reality of a working-class, multicultural neighborhood in present-day Barcelona. After a performance in a small venue, a manager appears in his dressing room offering him the opportunity of a lifetime. Pressure quickly mounts from those closest to him and from those eager to ride on his coattails, urging him not to squander the chance that could propel him to the upper echelons of the city and society. Filled with doubts about his worth, burdened by a turbulent family history, and deeply aware of his class identity, he strives to remain true to himself and the place where he grew up, a neighborhood where very few can escape the bleak future of the outskirts.
