Nine months after their mother Pippa's death, twins Sylvie and Cassia begin to experience what their father, Alfie, quickly dismisses as mere recurring nightmares: each night they wake him, insisting there's someone in their room. When the distressing dreams cease, Alfie stops worrying. But everything changes the day the girls start talking about a mysterious new friend: Black Mamba, a magical man capable of transforming into anything he desires. They reserve a place for him at the table, whisper secrets to him, and claim he'll soon take them away. Alarmed, Alfie turns to Julia, Pippa's sister and a child psychotherapist.
