PaÃs en ruinas : Historias enterradas de la España franquista (1939-1975)
$ 27.95
Alfredo González Ruibal, premio Nacional de Ensayo, narra una historia Ãntima de la España franquista a través de sus escombros.
This is a different kind of history of the Franco regime. The material it's written with isn't historical documents, but rather the remnants of the dictatorship: its debris and ruins. Within them lie buried stories that speak of millions of ordinary Spaniards. Because it's not so much about recounting the Franco regime through its artifacts, but about the lives of the people who lived, suffered, fought, and died in Franco's Spain.
Throughout the book, we'll get to know the soldiers who fought in the last trenches of the Civil War, the experiences of the defeated in concentration camps, and the final moments of those murdered by the dictatorship. We'll also visit guerrilla bases, the homes of the last peasants, and the shantytowns in the big cities where many of them ended up living. And we'll enter the sanctuaries of the Franco regime —the Valle de los CaÃdos, the Pazo de Meirás— to uncover their hidden side.
An archaeology of our recent past that is at the same time a story of the violence exercised by the dictatorship and of the resistance and dignity of those who opposed it.
