At 24, Kikuko Kimina is exhausted from work and feels like she's lost her way in life. One night, after confronting her boss at the restaurant, she meets Rita Tojima, the owner of a small neighborhood flower shop, who offers her a temporary job at the Kawarazaki Flower Shop. Thus begins an unexpected journey for Kikuko. At the shop, she discovers the secret language of flowers and the stories of those who buy them: a child taking a bouquet to his mother's grave, a teenager wanting to say goodbye to her best friend, an elderly man honoring his wife's memory every week. Each encounter is associated with a flower —magnolia, sunflower, chrysanthemum, mimosa, cherry blossom, lily of the valley, carnation— that symbolizes universal emotions such as dignity, hope, grief, love, and gratitude.
