La Galatea

Galatea is simultaneously a tribute to the pastoral novel, whose thematic and structural features provide its basic foundation, and a protest against the limitations or accommodating conventions with which its predecessors had cultivated it. The work narrates the amorous misadventures of several idealized shepherds in a bucolic setting. The story revolves around Galatea, a beautiful and virtuous shepherdess who is courted by several shepherds, especially Elicio and Erastro, although she prefers to remain free. Through dialogues, poems, and interspersed narratives, Cervantes explores themes such as unrequited love, friendship, personal freedom, and beauty.
