Madison Washington, an outcast at her small-town Georgia high school, has always been the target of bullying. She's endured it because she has more pressing problems to solve. She's spent her entire life pretending to be white at the behest of her fanatical white father, Thomas Washington. After a video about bullying goes viral and exposes the racist roots of Springville High School, student representatives devise a plan to change the school's public image: organizing the first-ever interracial prom as a show of unity. The popular white class representative convinces her boyfriend, the Black superstar quarterback, to ask Maddy to be his date, leading her to dream of a normal life. But some of her classmates aren't finished with her yet. And what they don't know is that Maddy is still hiding another secret… one that will cost them all their lives.
