Joni Lark has a secret. Despite being one of the most sought-after songwriters in Los Angeles, she hasn't been able to write a single song in a long time. She feels a great emptiness inside and doesn't know what to do with it. When she returns to Vienna Shores, her hometown in North Carolina, she hopes the sand, the beach, and the shows at the Revelry, her family's concert hall, will spark inspiration. But when she arrives, everything has changed. Her best friend is hiding something from her, her memories of her mother are fading, and the Revelry is about to close. How can she possibly write songs when her old world is no longer the same? And then, she hears it: a melody in her head, wordless and half-finished. And with it, a captivating and addictive voice accompanies it; a voice that, it seems, belongs to a cynical musician grappling with his own inner void. It's undoubtedly just a product of her overworked imagination. However, a very real man arrives in Vienna Shores. He is arrogant and reserved (nothing like the sweet, funny voice Joni hears in her head), and he has a plan to sever their inconvenient telepathic connection: to end the song that tortures them in the hope that their hearts, and their secrets, will not suffer in the process.
